Homeopathy Tips for a Happy Halloween

October is a month full of excitement for children — costumes, trick-or-treating, and of

course, bags of sweets. But for many parents, Halloween also brings two challenges:

managing children’s fears of spooky decorations, darkness, or scary costumes, and handling

the inevitable tummy aches and sugar highs after the celebrations.

As a homeopath, I often see how this time of year can be unsettling for little ones —

emotionally and physically. The good news is that homeopathy offers gentle support to help

children (and parents!) navigate both the thrills and spills of Halloween.

Fears Around Halloween

Not every child enjoys the spooky atmosphere. For some, the loud noises, masks, and

darkness can spark anxiety or even nightmares. Here are a few remedies that parents

sometimes find helpful:

 Aconite – for sudden, intense fear, especially after being startled (e.g. by a scary

costume or loud noise).

 Stramonium – when a child is afraid of the dark, wants the light on, or struggles with

nightmares.

 Pulsatilla – for children who become clingy, weepy, and don’t want to be left alone.

 Arsenicum Album – for kids who feel very anxious, restless, or fearful of being

unsafe.

Tip: If your child is especially sensitive to Halloween, create a calmer celebration at home

with friendly decorations, comforting routines, and plenty of reassurance.

Sweet Overload – Tummy Aches & Sugar Highs

Trick-or-treating often means pockets full of chocolate, lollies, and fizzy drinks. A little

indulgence is fun, but too much sugar can leave children with sore tummies, mood swings, or

difficulty sleeping.

Here are some remedies parents may find useful after a sugary feast:

 Nux Vomica – for indigestion, irritability, or when a child feels worse after

overeating sweets.

 Carbo Vegetabilis – for bloating, belching, or feeling sluggish after too much sugar.

 Chamomilla – for tummy pain in children who become irritable or can’t be

comforted.

 Pulsatilla – again, helpful when rich food or sweets upset digestion, especially if the

child is clingy.

Tip: Encourage balance by offering healthy snacks before trick-or-treating and saving some

sweets for later days, rather than eating them all at once.

Supporting Balance Through the Season

Halloween is a time of fun and creativity, and with a little extra support, it doesn’t have to

mean tears or tummy troubles. Homeopathy offers gentle, non-toxic remedies that can help

restore balance when fear or overindulgence gets in the way of joy.
